Very many thanks to Bruce M. for bringing this game to my attention.
Also thanks to Mark H. for the information that you can buy the compilation The Complete Carriers at War at
the publisher's web site for $30 at the following link:
Carriers at War II, released in 1993, is a DOS air-navel battle game that takes place during World War Two.
But let's hear the rest in Bruce M.'s own words:
"It covers historical scenarios from Pearl Harbor to Trincomalee as well as hypotheticals such as
Invasion Hawaii (a what if Midway had gone the other way), Plan Orange, and some European
Theatre operations (such as German and Italian carriers) in surprising depth.
; "But the tie in to your site is the scenario on the Final Countdown. To access this scenario, you start
the Pearl Harbor scenario and choose the Final Countdown war room selection. You can choose to
be Kirk Douglas or Nagumo. Of course its much easier to be Douglas.
"The game [was] published by Strategic Studies Group P/L and their web site is
www.ssg.com.au. The game is old but the graphics are good and replayablility is high due to the
unusual AI which does not have to stick to strictly historical timeline. Midway is tough because the
broken catapult does not have to happen in the game and usually the Japanese can find you before
you find them."
A copy just listed (and sold very quickly) on eBay for $25. I missed out on it, but the seller was kind enough
to include a very good picture of the front and back of the cover. Click on the photo below for a closer look.
